What Is Million Dollar Dip?

Million dollar dip, also known as Neiman Marcus dip, is a cream cheese-based dip that's loaded with garlic, bacon, green onions, almonds, and shredded cheese. It was invented in the 1950s by Helen Corbitt as a menu item for a restaurant inside a Neiman Marcus located in Dallas, Texas. It's been a hit ever since.

Why Is it Called Million Dollar Dip?

Like other "million dollar" recipes, this appetizer recipe earned the name because of its rich flavor. There's something extra special about each millionaire recipe that makes it truly indulgent (like adding butter to Million Dollar Deviled Eggs). In this million dollar dip recipe, it's the combination of cream cheese, mayo, sour cream, bacon, and shredded cheddar cheese.

Million Dollar Dip Ingredients

The great news about this Neiman Marcus dip recipe is that you need very few ingredients to pull it together. That's a total win during the busy holiday rush.

Cream Cheese: You'll need a package of cream cheese for this easy dip recipe. Ensure it's room temperature before mixing.
Sour Cream: Choose any sour cream you like—this million dollar dip recipe will work with any fat level.
Mayo: If you prefer, you can easily use avocado oil mayo or your favorite vegan mayo.
Bacon: Ensure the cooked bacon is extra-crispy. It helps the texture of the finished dip.
Green Onion: Save some thinly sliced green onion to put on the top of the dip before serving.
Almonds: This recipe calls for slivered almonds but in a pinch, you could substitute sliced almonds. Ensure they're toasted before adding them for maximum flavor.
Cheddar Cheese: Our Test Kitchen preferred the flavor of sharp cheddar cheese in this appetizer dip recipe.

How to Serve Million Dollar Dip

Serve million dollar dip with fresh vegetables, crackers, crusty bread, and pretzels. It's also great spread on toast or scooped with chips.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened

  • 3/4 cup sour cream

  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise

  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

  • 3/4 cup chopped crisp cooked bacon (about 8 slices)

  • 1/2 cup green onion

  • 1/2 cup toasted slivered almonds

  • 8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese shredded 2 cups

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl beat the cream cheese on low speed until smooth. Add sour cream, mayonnaise, garlic powder and onion powder; beat until combined.

  2. Reserve 1 to 2 tablespoons of the bacon, green onion and almonds to sprinkle on top of dip. Add remaining bacon, green onion, almonds and cheese; stir until combined.

Test Kitchen Tip: To toast the almonds, heat a small dry skillet over medium heat, add in slivered almonds. Cook until golden brown and fragrant, 5 to 7 minutes, tossing frequently.

  3. Top with reserved bacon, onion and almonds. Serve with crackers, corn chips, or pretzel chips.

How to Store Million Dollar Dip

Store any leftover million dollar dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. We don't recommend freezing million dollar dip as the texture can change when thawed.
